Welcome to Monarch Pedals.

Boutique effects pedals designed and built by hand in Auckland, New Zealand.

Thanks for stopping by.

Really. Thanks for stopping by and taking a look.

You’ve found something different. Something unique. Something new and original in a world saturated with clones and copycats shrouded in spiel and buzzwords. We’re bringing something different to the landscape from way down here in New Zealand.

Our story starts the usual way. 2009. A wah pedal breaks. Fixing it seems like some occult mystery locked away in dusty tomes or secret knowledge only to be handed out to a select few. Screw that. Open up the back. See what’s going on. If it’s already broken then it can’t get worse.

That was then, learning to fix a busted wah the hard way, which I did. Then I began adding mods, getting blisters on my fingers. But, it was always fun and that’s the point isn’t it? That’s how it began. After some R&D, some trial and error, playtesting, road-testing, player feedback, refinements, then more refinements, we produced our own circuits that became the foundation on which Monarch Pedals was built. The original one-knob Fuzzboy from 2010 still exists on a shelf in the workshop and it still sounds rad (looks like hell, though).

You’ve probably seen that we’re in New Zealand. We make all the circuits by hand in a small workshop in Auckland, the biggest city of 1.7m people. Our little space overlooks Mt Eden and we can just about make out the SkyTower through a copse of trees where the lorikeets like to roost.

Every single part of the pedals we make is lovingly installed by hand by a husband and wife team of 2 and a shopdog called Bess who lets us know when the courier is here and features in the artwork every now and then.

Our only mission was to make something different, something fun, usable, rugged, durable, inspirational, and something that looks cool. Easy enough, right?

Thanks for reading. We’re glad you’re here.

Make a good noise.
