You’ve found something different. Something unique. Something original in a world flooded with clones and copycats dressed up in spiel and buzzwords. At Monarch Pedals we’ve been pushing back against that tide since 2009, building things fresh, from way down here in New Zealand.

It started the usual way: A broken wah. Damn. Fixing it myself felt like stepping into some clandestine occult mystery where secret knowledge was only handed down to a chosen few. Screw that. If it’s already busted, what’s the worst that can happen? Crack it open, poke around, we might just learn something.

That was the beginning - modding, circuit bending, burning fingertips on cheapy soldering irons, but loving every minute. Out of that came Monarch Pedals: trial and error, R&D, gig-testing, refining, listening to players, and eventually making our own circuits. The first Fuzzboy from 2010 still lives on a shelf in the workshop. It looks like absolute hell, but it still sounds rad.

Fast forward to now and we’re still at it. Each pedal assembled by hand by a husband-and-wife team (plus Bess, the shopdog, who mostly keeps a lookout for couriers) with the same ethos: If we’re making something for players, it has to be rugged, usable, and inspiring - gear that makes you want to play.

In mid-2024, we took the same philosophy and applied it to something new: pickups. That’s how Kingdom Pickups was born. Every pickup is wound, built, and finished by hand in our Auckland workshop. No soulless machine winders, no shortcuts. Pickups are the heart of your guitar’s voice, and if you’re chasing your perfect tone, why settle for mass-produced when you can have boutique?

Monarch Pedals and Kingdom Pickups are two sides of the same coin. Made by the same hands, in the same workshop, with the same goal: to give players something that feels personal, inspiring, built to last, and it might just look pretty cool too.
