Valley Girl - do it all with the best PAF
from NZ$180.00

The Valley Girl

Overwound PAFs with muscle and versatility – from jazz to metal.

Our modernised take on the legendary PAF.

Scatterwound a touch hotter for extra muscle and authority, without losing the touch sensitivity that makes a great humbucker sing, and asymmetrically wound for better dynamics, bigger frequency response, and amazing clarity when rolling back the volume knob.

Built with matched Alnico 5 magnets and scatterwound to around 10k (bridge) and 7.5k (neck), the Valley Girl set is as versatile as it comes – from metal to jazz and everything in between. Wax potted in our proprietary blend for clarity and noise control, and wired 4-conductor for coil splitting or series/parallel options.

This set is a Gibson’s best friend, and our most popular humbucker for good reason.

Perfect for just every situation, our Valley Girls are all over the world making all kinds of music.

Sunday Driver - vintage output Alnico 5 for laid back clarity
from NZ$180.00

Sunday Driver

Low-wind clarity and dynamic response – for players who value touch and tone.

The Sunday Driver is our mellowest A5 humbucker set – low-wind, open, and designed for players who want their pickups to amplify the subtleties of their touch rather than overpower them.

Built around matched Alnico 5 magnets, these pickups deliver plenty of output despite their modest DCR, with a wide-open, uncompressed midrange that responds beautifully to both pick and fingerstyle playing. Don’t think they’ll be quieter than the others based on just their DCR, they’re totally not.

The bridge is asymmetrically scatterwound to around 7k, paired with a 6k neck, giving the set a transparent, versatile voice with exceptional clarity and a shimmering top end. The Sunday Driver isn’t about crushing riffs or high-gain chaos – it’s for players chasing dynamics, articulation, and a humbucker that sings in harmony with their playing style.

The Sixth Element - Power & style combined
NZ$349.00

Named for carbon – the element that forms the backbone of all life – The Sixth Element is a handmade humbucker set built right here in Auckland for players who demand character, clarity, and raw musicality in equal measure.

Each pickup is wound by hand in Auckland, New Zealand, with careful attention to detail that machines simply can’t replicate.

The bridge is scatterwound to 15k for bite and authority, with the screw coil being overwound for better response and punchm while the neck sits at 7.5k with the screw coil overwound for a lovely bell-like tone offering warmth and definition without ever slipping into mud. Both are powered by polished Alnico 5 magnets, giving you that unmistakable snarl in the upper mids – perfect for cutting through a dense mix.

This is a set that absolutely loves a Les Paul or SG. The bridge delivers punch, presence, and snarly grit for hard rock and dirty blues, while the neck can move effortlessly from crystalline cleans and shimmering ambient textures to soulful, vocal-like leads.

Finished in-house and by hand our unique brushed look, The Sixth Element balances understated elegance with undeniable power.

It’s a set that doesn’t shout for attention with understated class and is equally at home playing jazz and blues as it is chugging through a 4×12 (or two).

Every pickup is wound, finished, and tested by hand. No shortcuts. Just honest craftsmanship and tone you won’t find off the rack.

Black bobbins only. No covers.

Storyteller - brilliant clarity and dynamics, Alnico 3, low wind
from NZ$180.00

Storyteller set

The Storyteller set is built for players who want that timeless classic humbucker tone, but don't want to settle for off-the-rack machine made stuff that's the same as everyone else.

Each set is wound and aged entirely by hand in Auckland, featuring 100% pure nickel covers that have been individually reliced for true vintage character. No two are ever alike, making this (and every) Storyteller set a true one-of-one.

The bridge pickup follows the tried and tested PAF recipe, but revamped for modern playing. The frequent drawbacks have been addressed (too bright, too thin, too weak), giving it a tighter richer low end, smoother detailed highs, and more authority in the mids. It retains that unmistakable and iconic PAF snarl and roar, powered by an Alnico 5 magnet.

The neck pickup is a thing of beauty, built around a vintage-correct Alnico 3 magnet that delivers unmatched transparency and dynamic response under the fingers. It offers a sweet, open top end with a lush depth to the lower mids that stays clear and articulate. Nothing responds to your playing like an Alnico 3, so if you're a player that values nuance, subtlety, but still wants to rock out when the time is right, this is the one.

Both pickups are asymmetrically scatterwound for improved frequency response, more detail in the highs, and a broad dynamic range that responds beautifully to your playing. Cleanup with the volume control is smoother and more musical, and the 4-conductor shielded wiring provides modern versatility for coil splitting or other switching options (series/parallel is fantastic on neck HBs). The Storyteller set reads 8.9k (bridge) and 7.1k (neck), perfectly balanced for a Les Paul or similar dual-humbucker guitar.

Every set tells its own story.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • All Kingdom Pickups are built by hand and as such the lead time is generally 1-3 weeks from order depending on parts availability. While we keep a small inventory on hand, we cannot guarantee your order will be in stock but we will build it ASAP

  • Stated DCR is ± 10% because they are wound by hand and not a homogeneous machine.

  • Pickups are wax potted in our own proprietary blend of waxes and oils featuring beeswax from our friend Jason’s organic apiary in the Bay of Plenty

  • All humbuckers are 4 wire conducting

  • Spacing: Bridge = 52mm, Neck = 50mm

  • WIRING: Green & Bare = GROUND. Black = HOT. White & red = SPLITS.

CUSTOM SHOP - If you can dream it, we can make it
NZ$200.00

When we say custom, we mean it.

Most of what we do at Kingdom Pickups is custom winds for discerning players who want something a little extra, a little different, a little more them; something that reflects their identity and looks as unique as their music sounds.

It starts with a chat back and forth about what you’re looking for in terms of sounds and looks, maybe send a few song samples in, tell us about your band, your ambitions, we’ll come up with some ideas and let you know what we can make to fit the bill.

Take a look at the gallery here and explore some of our past builds.

We do all the finish effects by hand. After a youth spent painting 40k minis and terrain (Death Guard FTW) we apply the same techniques, skills, and attention to detail with these custom winds where we make art functional, and turn the function into art.

What we can do

  • Bobbin colours- white, black, red, green, orange, blue, pink, purple, cream, black, grey, a mix, just about anything

  • Bobbin effects - brushed, reliced, distressed, whatever you like

  • Poles - Slugs, screws, hexes, grubs, in almost any colour

  • Magnets - Alnico 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, Ceramic, Neodymium

  • Covers - Faceless (no holes), 6 hole, 12 hole

Sundog - vintage output Alnico 2, warm, nuanced.
from NZ$180.00

Sundog Humbucker

Alnico 2 warmth and dynamics – classic rock tones with touch sensitivity.

Inspired by the iconic tones of a certain top-hatted Les Paul wielding hero but brought up to date for modern players, the Sundog set is all about bluesy rock tones with a bit more juice under the hood.

The Sundog set uses Alnico 2 magnets for smoother highs, rounder lows, and a more open/less compressed midrange than say, alnico 5, which is brighter, tighter, but also a little stiff and harsh/scratchy sounding in the top end. Alnico 2 responds beautifully to your playing dynamics and are the perfect match for anything from singing soulful leads (while standing on top of a grand piano?) to snarly rock to laid back warm jazzy chords. Winding the bridge a little hotter brings the power when you want it.

A lot of jazz and blues players love the Sundog in the neck - they love the round squishy low end warmth, top end fidelity and nuance, and value the touch response.

Alnico 2 makes a different feeling pickup than the other magnets and it's a pickup you play just like you play the guitar (you'll see what I mean). Asymmetrically scatter wound to around 9k (bridge) and 7.3k (neck), wax potted, modern 4 conductor wiring.

Perfect for just about everything except super downtuned chug metal (I have others for that).

SHOWN: Zebra coils. You can pick what you like :)

JP Custom - ultimate chugs
from NZ$180.00

JP Custom

Crushing power, refined response – built for heavy riffing.

Named after Auckland’s own premier riffmaster – and good friend of Kingdom Pickups – the JP Custom is designed for players who demand nothing less than massive, controlled power under heavy gain and drop tunings. This will make your amp cry.

At the bridge, a hot scatterwind to around 15k paired with an Alnico 8 magnet and 12 solid steel polepieces pushes this pickup to its absolute limits – maximum inductance, colossal low end, and precise attack. It’s the perfect middle ground between ceramic force and Alnico touch response, giving you crushing authority without sacrificing feel.

Balanced with an Alnico 5 neck, wound to around 9k, the JP Custom offers a true best-of-both-worlds setup: brutal rhythm power and a neck that stays smooth and articulate under gain. Wax potted in our proprietary blend and wired 4-conductor, it’s built to dominate the heaviest genres while still giving you control at your fingertips.

Please Note:

Benchmark Set - N&B

Utilising one of our most successful ideas - the hybrid wind. In the bridge, we took one coil from our loved JP Custom model and another coil from our best-selling Valley Girl humbucker and mated them together for the best of both worlds and a very pleasing, rich, full tone, that cleans up amazingly well with the volume knob. Singing highs, a pleasant scoop in the mids and a robust yet polite low end make this a great pickup for just about anything.

11.9k bridge / 7k neck, Alnico 5

Warmonger Set - N&B

With their 12 pole covers and a unique distressed handpainted finish this set is built for heavy riffing and thrash metal. 12 fully adjustable polepieces mean you can dial in the precise response you want across the humbuckers while looking literally unique. This set is 1 of 1.

Sundog - Neck only

A mellow 6.5k scatterwound around a roughcast Alnico 2 magnet. One of these is in the neck pickup of our Founder’s Gibson LP. Sweet, dynamic, singing high end, with a round, soft, spongy low end that’s soft in the attack. No other pickups we make respond better to your dynamics, you can go from clean to dirty by just changing your picking power. For jazz, blues, cleans, pop, some rock, this is the absolute winner. We changed the name of this to Dust N Bones later.
